    I have an explanation why laundry detergent is locked up. It is one of the most common things shoplifted at grocery and variety stores. The reason sounds wacky, but it’s true. (I work for a decent sized grocery store chain in the upper Midwest.)

    Laundry detergent, especially big name brands like Tide, can be used as a form of currency to buy drugs on the street.

    • Growing up in The Valley in Southern California, back when it was a cool place to live….I lived with a coke dealer. He told me that the little colored pellets in some detergents are an ingredient in the production of crystal meth. So there is someone out there that, that’s all they do it pick colored pellets out of laundry detergents for a living.

  3. Hey, RG. Catching up on podcasts, and got to EP 17. On This Week, you mentioned Harry Nilsson. I know you hate corrections, but I think it’s important to pronounce people’s names right. You always say it as “neel-son”, but there’s no “e” in his name. It’s pronounced phonetically, just as written. Nil-sson.

    M&B, M&L, MITM, D vs D…it’s all good.

    Oh, and my daughter recently turned 20. She goes back as a listener to MITM. Would that be your youngest listener?

  6. MARK! One word: LEMONTATER!!!!

    I hate to say it, but your last 5-6 shows have become almost unlistenable to me because your volumes are varying so much! If your talking then go to an audio clip or when you’re speaking with a guest, I’ll hear you but not your guest, or I’ll hear you but then you go to an audio clip and it comes out blarring about 3 times louder than your talking. Today I was listening to EP 24 and I was starting to think you were doing that trick you and Brian did back in the 90’s when you kept making the program quieter so stupid replacable listeners would crank up their car radios, then you’d blast them! You seemed to keep getting quieter and quieter.

    I have a feeling this might have to do with your CA studio. Cause I don’t remember your Lake Norman studio doing this. And I remember you getting a “Lemontater” when you first set it up.

    Anyway, just had to let you know, cause I enjoy the show too much to have to stop listening.

  11. Wondering how these new LA fires near Castaic Lake are affecting you and your family.
    Seems to be very close to your old neighborhood from 15-30 yrs ago,
    Hopefully not too close to your new abode.

  12. Hi Mark, you didn’t give the criteria on why LA was considered the #1 sports town. The one criteria you said was that the word “sports” was plural. Yes, Green Bay fans are loyal, but does Green Bay have any other pro sports teams? No. Los Angeles not only has multiple sports teams in basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and football, but most of these teams have won championships since the year 2000. The exceptions being the Clippers and Chargers. The only WNBA team that LA has also won multiple championships. No other city or town in the US can make that claim. That is why LA is the #1 Sports town.
    The Lakers won in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010, and 2020.
    The Dodgers won in 2020 and 2024
    The Angels won in 2002
    The Galaxy won in 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, and 2014
    The Kings won in 2012 and 2014
    The Ducks won in 2007
    The Rams won in 2021
    and the Sparks won in 2001, 2002, and 2016

    By contrast, the last championship the Packers won was in 2011.

  15. Glad you are back with your own podcast. I loved the Danny Bonaduce episode. I am up to episode 6. Slow down so I can catch up. Any Cool Stories in Music episodes? Probably not. I think you said you can only do one podcast at a time.
