For you new Stupid Fucking Listeners, Mark has a tendency to repeat himself like your old Grampa might.
So when he announced he was going to recount his story about Tuskegee and the Torch Truck Stop, well you know the feeling, here goes 10 minutes I’ll never see again.
I got to tell you how wrong I was to prejudge him.
His memory of the ranch, his aunt, the cows and the shock shared by Lionel Richie and then the closing with a heart felt embrace.
I had goose bumps and I started to well up.
I can’t tell you what it was that moved me so much, I continue to try to understand.
Maybe it’s the affirmation of this precious life and how quickly we move through it and those memories that we carry. Could it be the conclusion of two total strangers finding out that they had the very same experience that changed their lives forever. Maybe it’s all of the above.
Or maybe it’s just grandpa babbling on and knowing his time is short…..
Hey Mark, as soon as I saw the title, “Easy Like a Sunday Morning.” I knew you were going to tell the Torch Cafe story. One of my favorites from the book. You mentioned that you didn’t hear much about it. Which surprised me. Maybe others are like me, they know that you know that you are an outstanding storyteller so why bother you with a compliment. I have saved the episode. My sister is going to be in town next month and we will be doing some driving, I will make her listen to it. She’s used to my Mark Thompson fandom! I regularly send her episodes and tell her to listen! 🙂 Thank you for all you do. It makes my Fridays better!
I find it interesting that Mark seems to have a hard-on for news from Florida, especially since he spent most of his professional career in ‘The Land of Fruits & Nuts”, a.k.a., California.
Hey Mark: Thank you for everything you and your family have done to entertain us over the years–question (maybe you’ll answer): do you accept ideas for candidates for “What You Do”? I have an idea for a show with a creative type who is located in LA — 50 year career in as a writer/creator/director of cartoons, comic books, Comic Con. Please contact me if interested…
Just listened to the part about Tom Bergeron calling the 3 stooges, and thought you’d enjoy checking out “Breakfast Time” a morning show that Tom did in 1995 ish….with one of the co hosts being a puppet named Bob.
It was a goofy live morning tv show on fx. Lots of episodes on Youtube….
Mark,
Regarding your rechargeable toothbrush, the yellow light may mean you need to replace the rechargeable battery in the actual toothbrush.
Just a thought.
I miss Lynda but Loving you.

Mark,
My wife and I finally got to see Dwight Yoakam live last night in Colorado Springs. What a show he and his band put on! I can assume you have heard his new album? It is great to see him out there touring and making new music. Do you still keep in contact with him? I remember how much he was imvolved with you and Brian over the years. Good times!
Keep on keepin’ on!
Hey Mark,
Long-time listener and I’m 65 years young. I still laugh hard at poop jokes and comments. I grew up with it, having brothers and living in a neighborhood with a bunch of great stupid boys. Miss those days. Thought you’d enjoy these phrases for pooping:
-Torque-ing a moonfish
-Clearing the traffic on the Hershey Highway
-Hershey squirts
-Making snakes
Also, you may know about that step stool for easy pooping, the Squatty Potty. I discovered that their website has a ton of phrases for pooping too. Hilarious. Enjoy…
