A father of a little girl is assassinated in public, a story that shook the world, and you say nothing. But a millionaire comedian makes an insensitive joke about that murder, gets suspended for a couple days, and you launch into a 20-minute, emotional rant about how unfair life is. Tell me you’re a far-left liberal without actually saying you’re a far-left liberal.
RG — calling what happened to Kimmel ‘censorship’ is nonsense. He mocked a murder victim, ABC benched him, and now he’s back. Actions have consequences. If Trump really wanted to censor anti-MAGA shows, The View wouldn’t still be on air. That’s not censorship, that’s accountability.
A married couple drove two hours to visit the husband’s aunt. It was a fun day with other family members attending. Most of the cousins and their parents were there. As the party was winding down, outside it was already getting dark, so this couple got back into their car to drive the two hours home.
The husband had been driving for quite some time and he was getting sleepy and hallucinating that animals were on the freeway. It was very dark, as there were no lights along the highway, but he pulled the car to the side of the freeway onto a gravel shoulder of the road. He laid his head back to rest his eyes. As they were both resting, they both heard a car pull up behind them, stop and a car door closed. With gravel crunching under their feet, someone approached their car. Assuming it was a police officer checking on them, the couple both turned around to see who was parked behind them. But, there was no one there. What??
Surprised, they rubbed their eyes and looked around again but still no one was there! “Did you hear something?” they both asked each other. Yes, they both heard it. Was it a ghost playing a trick?
After that, they were both WIDE AWAKE, so they quickly got back on the freeway and continued their drive home, without another incident.
Hey Mark: I have been being entertained and informed by you for several years and have enjoyed every minute.
Your humor causes me to laugh out loud and your imagination and voice are gifts to us all. Thank you for the Paul Harvey segment, it stopped me in my tracks during my morning walk. Your the best, and please keep it coming.
Thanks Mark!! appreciated your comments on the Kimmel situation. The emotional intensity by which you described the fallout Kimmel suffered really got my attention. So much so, I struck out on my own to gather as much info as I could. Whewie, quite the rabbit hole!!! So much noise and misinformation from both sides it made it hard to ferret out what happened. Anyway, Happy to say I found no legislation designed to attack the 1st amendment. Folks can still say whatever they want within reason. I found it interesting ABC and Bob Iger independent of what the president said, decided Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate given the charged environment following Kirk’s assassination. I also found it interesting two affiliates Nexstar and Sinclair, felt so strongly about Kimmel’s comments that after ABC reinstated Kimmel, Nexstar and Sinclair, refused to air “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Though recently, they have agreed to begin airing it again. Also found it interesting Kimmel’s popularity has fallen over the last several months as have his numbers. After CBS let go of Colbert and 40 million he was costing them, perhaps ABC was looking to cut some dead weight? who knows. Also found it interesting late night TV continues to lose viewers. Maybe headed the way of terrestrial radio? Who knows for sure! Maybe Kimmel was contrite enough during his meeting with ABC leadership that he learned his lesson? Time will tell. But, from what I can gather, the 1st amendment remains intact and available to all of us. Except for maybe Roseann Bar, Gina Carano and whoever dared speak out against the Covid Vaxx or those who broke the Hunter’s laptop story.
Mark, your comment about hating the opening line of She’s Like the Wind reminded me of an idea I had for another segment you could do, similar to Songs I Love/Hate. How about songs that contain either the best or worst lyrics? For every bad “She’s like the wind, through my trees”, there’s a great “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.” Thanks for what you do!
Loved your reference to the World Series on transistor radio. I grew up in LA. I was in 7th grade for the ‘78 series. Yes World Series games were mid week day games. Dodgers v Yankees. I vividly remember concealing my transistor radio with a wired earpiece tucked carefully under my clothes while listening to Vin Scully. Me and the other boys were hardly subtle in big moments but the teachers pretended not to notice. Thank you for bringing back this beautiful memory. Listener since the start at KLOS. Lovin you.
Hey RG
Last week on our local oldies station they had a pretty cool thing that I believe you could do something way better with. The played the theme song to a bunch of TV-shows and had a little story about the song and the show. For example “Married with Children” they told the audience how many seasons it ran and the characters and actors in it and the the story about the Frank Sinatra song “Love and Marriage” that became the theme. It would be right up your alley and the amount of shows – well there are enough to last a life time… Styx tickets?
Like you, am concerned about the integrity of the First Amendment. I am a free speech absolutist, except where the speaker advocates violence. Kimmel got back from his one-week vacation, that is fine. You took a position, which is fine.
My question for you, my balls-eating friend, is were you as concerned about Gina Carano, who Disney fired from The Mandalorian for stupid comments comparing political conservatives to Jews in Nazi Germany, questioning COVID-19 vaccine mandates, and making claims about the 2020 election?
Were you as concerned about Roseanne Barr Arnold, who Disney fired from the show that she co-created, that she starred in, and that was name after her, for stupid, racist comments insulting Obama’s brain Valerie Jarrett?
I’m all for free speech, but shouldn’t it be free for everyone who takes a non-violent position? Let the hearer of the speech make the determination that the speaker is an idiot.
Keep up the good work, my balls-eating friend. Love you.
I caught my 20 year old son going to the bathroom in the backyard yesterday. I had to tell him to not do anymore. It was okay while he was a toddler but not anymore as the neighbors have a pretty clear view into our backyard.
Hey RG! You do not owe an apology to any of us stupid replaceable listeners.
I’ve been a listener since November 87. You got us through the Northridge Earthquake, the LA Riots, 9/11, with grace and humor. You taught us how to be a man when your wife is diagnosed with cancer, get a vasectomy with class, and its OK to cry for your dog.
If a SLR complains about you taking a stand for our freedom of speech, just tell them to fuck-off and to suck your left nut (cause Lynda has your right nut in her purse).
Your opening comments on Jimmy Kimmel were very disappointing. Sadly, you espouse Jimmy Kimmel endlessly and never address the core issue. Yes, we have the freedom to say what we want, be completely insensitive and make “jokes” about the assassination of a man who exercised his 1st amendment right on a poorly rated national TV show, but there will be business consequences.
Sadly, you have chosen to stay quiet, censor yourself and NOT say anything about the bigger attack on the 1st amendment – the assassination of Charlie Kirk… As you always say, “What you do matters”!

Roseanne called that woman a fucking ape. quite a difference then what Kimmel said.

Mark,
First, eat my balls.
Second, Disney has male princesses, they don’t care what the Trump admin thinks at all, this wasn’t a freedom of speech issue.
Third, Kimmel’s comments were not funny in the least, however, he has every right to say them. As Dis why has every right to pull the show.
Lastly, loved the clip you played at the end of the show of Paul Harvey, looks like it was written 65 years ago for the crazies on the left.
Again, eat my balls, I love your show.
